Glastonbury To Be Cancelled Over Swine Flu Scare?

May 4, 2009 by admin

Glastonbury organisers are responding to reports they could have to pull this year’s festival because of Swine Flu. The current health scare, which has seen a number of deaths in Mexico and reported cases across the rest of the world including the UK, could affect live events such as gigs and football matches if the situation escalates.

Because the flu is easily transmitted between humans, it’s thought that public gatherings could be cancelled if the outbreak reaches pandemic levels.

The Worthy farm press office has told us that they have no plans to pull this year’s event at this stage - but they are watching the situation to see how it develops.

What do you think? Should we change our summer plans, or is this just hysteria? Are you going to change your gig-going habits if the Swine Flu scare continues? Leave us a comment.

I would’t change my plans at all, not even a little bit

    NOOOOOOOOO!
Face masks and Tamiflu for all on the gate :)

Seriously tho latest reports are that a ‘pandemic’ is unlikely, and for those who do get it, the symptoms in many cases are less severe than the flu we already experience. I’m far more worried about catching it BEFORE the festi and missing it!

Our government seems to have a large share hold for the vaccine of the swine flu…

Personally, I’m not too worried. Roll on Glasto 2009!!!

i thought that the swine flu was only in mexico, an that it wudnt affect chester! the onli reason why two children have died is because they were on holiday over there. If this ends up gettin cancelled wud we all get a full refund?

Roll on Glasto 2009. Swine flu or no swine flu. The masses would want this to do ahead no matter what. See you in June!

There have now been 28 confirmed cases of swine flu in the UK.

A further 333 cases are under investigation.

    With 22 countries affected worldwide
1,516 confirmed cases of swine flu
30 confirmed deaths (29 in Mexico, 1 in the US)i really don’t think that we have anything to worry about here. the goverment for once seems to be on top of things and I see no reason for Glastonbury to be scrapped !!!!

Please don’t cancel. This fly scare is a media way of making loads of money and using the nerves of the people to profit.

Every year 35 000 people die of normal flu in America alone. There still hasn’t been a case of an American dying from it (Mexicans have died in America).
Swine flu is worse than normal flu but only slightly. This is just another case of the Media creating a health scare and making it seem so much worse than it actually is. If a pandemic does break out, which isn’t looking likely now, it would be unfortunate for them to cancel Glasto although some of the more reserved would say it’s sensible and yes we would get a refund…

The swine flu now reaches pandemic level, but I still want them to carry on only with some proper procedures. Heat scanners at the gates may only help to pick up our friends(with flu) who got fever.
Glasto office just need to do something to show their care for its true fans.

Looks like it might be cancelled now that we are at Pandemic level with over 1,200 infected. :(
