January 28, 2009 · Filed Under Glastonbury 2009 · 1 Comment

According to Michael Eavis about 90% of the tickets for this years Glastonbury 2009 festival have been sold. An estimated 136,250 tickets have been issued to date.

A welcome change of fortune for a festival that has experienced difficulties over the past few years. 2007’s event was hit by terrible weather and 2008’s festival, with headliners like Jay-Z, the Verve and Kings of Leon, failed to sell out. Event organisers took a different tactic for the 2009 festival, putting tickets on sale in October – six months earlier than normal.

Confirmed acts for 2009 are:

Blur, Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen and Kaiser Chiefs, along with Primal Scream, Supergrass, The Zutons and The Ting Tings.

Glastonbury 2008 Did Not Make Any Money

November 1, 2008 · Filed Under Glastonbury 2008 · Comment

Michael Eavis, the founder of Glastonbury music festival told the BBC that this years festival had suffered because of rising costs .

“Glastonbury costs £22million now, it’s a huge cost,” he said.

“The infrastructure, the fencing, the roads, the water and the loos, the marquees, the management, the security and the police, it goes on and on so we do have to sell out in order to make it work.”

Even though the festival didn’t make a profit they still made donations of 1 million pounds to its charities.

“We still made about a million pounds for the charities we work for, so we actually achieved a million but we didn’t make any beyond that.  There’s no money to reinvest or anything,” he said.

“Having said that, it’s the first year in 39 years that we didn’t make anything out of it, so it’s not bad really is it.”

I for 1 will be keeping my finger crossed regarding this one. Especially since their latest album is doing so well, it would be foolish to not have Coldplay at next years festival.
