Oasis rule out Glastonbury 2009

October 17, 2008 · Filed Under Glastonbury 2009 · 3 Comments

The band say they will concentrate on their tour instead of Glastonbury.
The lead singer Noel says Oasis wont be playing at Glastonbury 2009. It is said that Oasis have said they will not be performing at next year’s Glastonbury festival and will instead concentrate on their stadium tour. A massive blow to Oasis fans i would assume.

Speaking at the announcement of the stadium gigs guitarist Noel Gallagher said the group have no intentions of filling one of the slots at the event.

He said he is a big fan of the festival but that the band have never performed well there and next year they will not take part.

“Glastonbury is great to be at but it’s not really good for people like me to play at because you don’t go on until 11 at night and all the people you’re with by that time are absolutely battered,” Noel stated.

Kasabian have been confirmed as special guests for Oasis’ 2009 UK stadium tour. This announcement has sparked discussion at various places around the net and many are making their own conclusions as to the dates for the Oasis tour - being close to the time of year Glastonbury is set for. I am sure Noel will have a score to settle with Jay-Z over the fireworks from 2008.

It will be Oasis’ biggest ever tour of open air venues in the UK and includes two dates at the iconic new Wembley Stadium, as well as the promised homecoming shows over two nights in Manchester’s Heaton Park.

Here are the dates:

Sunday 7th June 2009: MANCHESTER, Heaton Park
Wednesday 10th June 2009: SUNDERLAND, Stadium of Light
Friday 12th June 2009: CARDIFF, Millennium Stadium

Jay-Z Boosts Glastonbury 2009 Ticket Sales

October 13, 2008 · Filed Under Glastonbury 2009 · Comment

Hip-hop titan Jay-Z has proved he has the Midas touch - half the tickets available for next year’s (09) Glastonbury
festival were snapped up within hours.

The 99 Problems hitmaker was blamed for poor ticket sales at the 2008 event, with some critics insisting hip-hop acts didn’t belong at such a rock-orientated festival.

However, Jay-Z thrilled fans with his headlining slot at the event in June (08), and opened the doors for other rap stars to perform at similar shows.

And now, Glastonbury bosses have revealed that half of the total number of tickets for 2009’s festival were snapped up as soon as they went on sale on Sunday (05Oct08).

The move has come as a confidence booster for festival organisers because fans won’t know any of the headline acts until early next year (09).

Glastonbury spokesman John Shearlaw tells the Bbc, “We are very calm about it - it’s a vote of confidence.

It’s brilliant that here we are in October talking about a festival that isn’t happening until next year.”

Half Glastonbury 2009 tickets sold

Half of the tickets for the Glastonbury 2009 music festival have been sold, eight months before the festival is even due to take place.

According to the BBC, tickets went on sale yesterday morning and more than half of the 137,500 places were snapped up.

Spokesman John Shearlaw said: “It’s brilliant that here we are in October talking about a festival that isn’t happening until next year.”

Glastonbury 2008 saw more than 130,000 revellers watch acts like rapper Jay-Z, Amy Winehouse and veteran songwriter Leonard Cohen.

Speaking about the headliners for next year, festival co-organiser Emily Eavis said: “It’s not Coldplay, it’s not U2 and it’s not the Rolling Stones”.

She added that the headliners should be announced: “pretty soon”.

Glastonbury 2009 will run for five days, from 24 to 28 June.

Kanye West For Glastonbury 2009?

October 3, 2008 · Filed Under Glastonbury 2009 · Comment

Registration for Glastonbury Festival 2009 opens this weekend. For the first time you’ll be able to put down a £50 deposit for your ticket and pay the rest off next year.

Organiser Michael Eavis told Xfm they hope it’ll help it sell out this time. “Last time we were the last [festival] to sell,” he said. “ll the Vs, the Ts, the Readings went on before us and they stole some of our thunder, so I thought it was important that we stole some of theirs again.”

The bearded festival man claimed that the deposit idea was ideally suited to the current financial climate. “We decided to do this about three months ago, so the credit crisis wasn’t upon us at the time,” he explained, “But it will certainly fit that model won’t it?”

Eavis also dropped a tantalising hint about who may be on the bill in 2009. “There’s some talk of Kanye West playing The Other Stage, he’s sort of Jay-Z’s rival, or rather they come from that same stable, don’t they? I’d love him to do The Other Stage, but not the Pyramid.”

You can register and pay your deposit from 9am on Sunday, October 5. To register, you’ll need to upload a passport photo of yourself, along with your usual details at www.glastonburyregistration.co.uk.

Radiohead and Led Zeppelin to headline Glastonbury 2009?

September 23, 2008 · Filed Under Glastonbury 2009 · Comment

Glastonbury 2009 may still be around nine months away, but organiser Emily Eavis has indicated that the headliners might have been booked already.

Speaking to the BBC, Eavis said: “Because our tickets go on sale on 5 Oct, we’ve brought [the announcement of headliners] forward. So we’re ensconced in chat about next year and there’s a lot of good feeling after such an amazing festival. We’re talking to a few people at the moment and I think pretty soon we’ll have some stuff sorted”.

Not a lot given away there, then, but she also said that: “It’s not Coldplay, it’s not U2 and it’s not the Rolling Stones”. Given that Radiohead weren’t included in this list, many people have deduced (rightly or wrongly) that they’re shoe-ins to top the Worthy Farm bill next year.
